Fall Maintenance Tips

Fall Maintenance Tips | Bangor, ME

Here in Maine, fall tends to come early. With the leaves already starting to change, it’s time to get ready for a new season. Here are a few fall maintenance tips to keep your car in good shape.

Lights

Since the days are getting shorter, you will likely be using your headlights more often. Make sure all of your exterior lights are working and angled correctly so you can see the road and other drivers can see you.

HVAC

Before the weather gets too cold, make sure your car’s heater is working properly. Test your HVAC system to make sure it works at all temperatures and vent configurations.

Tires

As temperatures drop, so will the air pressure in your tires. Make sure all your tires are fully inflated in addition to looking for signs of uneven wear or shallow tread.

Brakes

If you hear a high-pitched squealing sound when you apply the brakes, this could mean your brake pads are running thin and it is time for a new set. Don’t wait to do this as worn out brake pads can potentially damage the rotors.

Fluids

Just like other times of the year, make sure all of your vehicle’s fluids are clean and at the proper level.

Fall is a beautiful season, and we want to make sure you can enjoy its colorful charms as safely as possible. Set up an appointment with the service department at Quirk Chevrolet Cadillac of Bangor and have any issues taken care of.

2020 Chevrolet Silverado to Be Available with 3.0-Liter Inline-Six Turbo-Diesel Engine

2020 Chevrolet Silverao

Earlier this summer, Chevy announced that the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado would be available with a diesel engine for the very first time. The new Duramax® 3.0-liter inline-six turbo-diesel engine will achieve best-in-class torque and horsepower and boost the Silverado’s fuel economy.

This engine will be available exclusively on four trims of the 2020 Silverado (the 2019 model is available in eight trims, for reference): LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country. This engine will join a diverse powertrain lineup for the Silverado, which currently includes five options.

Chevy has already released performance specs for the new turbo-diesel engine: 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The Duramax engine will be partnered with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

“From the moment the engine is started, to its idle, acceleration and highway cruising, the 3.0-liter Duramax performance will change perceptions of what a diesel engine can offer in refinement,” remarked Nicola Menarini, director for Diesel Truck Engine Program Execution. “With advanced technologies that draw on global diesel expertise, it’s a no-compromise choice for those who want the capability and driving range of a diesel in a light-duty truck.”

The new turbo-diesel engine boasts a number of other advanced engine technologies, including an all-aluminum construction, Active Thermal Management, a water charge air cooler, variable geometry turbocharging, and more.

The 2020 Silverado is expected to arrive at dealerships, including Quirk Chevrolet of Bangor, later this year.

3 Reasons to Rotate Your Tires Regularly

Tire Rotation | Bangor, ME

Rotating the tires is one of the easiest — yet most important — things you can do to keep your vehicle operating smoothly and safely. Here’s a look at three reasons why you should make sure tire rotation is part of your regular car maintenance schedule.

It extends the life of your tires

A vehicle’s weight is distributed unevenly, and that means the tires wear unevenly, too. Rotating your tires regularly will help their tread wear more evenly, allow them to last longer, and save you money.

It keeps you safe behind the wheel

Unevenly worn tires can make your vehicle handle unsafely. For example, your front wheels will wear more quickly because they bear more weight, handle the steering, and receive power (if your vehicle is front-wheel drive). Without regular rotations, the tires you rely on most will wear out the fastest, providing less control when you need it.

It helps your car perform more efficiently

When your tires wear unevenly, it forces your car to work harder and burn more fuel. Evenly worn tires, on the other hand, help your vehicle run more effectively and save you money at the pump. Consult your vehicle’s manual for recommendations on how often to get your tires rotated. When it’s time, stop in at Quirk Chevrolet Cadillac of Bangor — our expert staff will be happy to perform this essential service for you.

The 2019 Colorado earned the judges’ recognition for its variety of engine options, as well as its advanced tech, smooth performance, and comfortable interior. It also offers one of the roomiest standard box sizes in the compact truck segment, yielding a maximum cargo capacity of 49.9 cubic feet. It will easily accommodate your family’s possessions on a road trip.

The Colorado also puts forth three key infotainment assets: Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, and Bluetooth® audio streaming. That way, you and your loved ones can stay in touch with contacts while enjoying the latest apps, games, and playlists.

The full-sized Silverado 1500 truck also captured the critics’ praise for its own array of family-friendly amenities. Chevy has endowed this truck with advanced driver-assist tech such as Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert to enhance your crew’s safety on each journey.
